    Came into force on 13 th  October 2005 1   “ The single most important act in our country after the constitution of India is the Right to Information Act ,2005”    Justice K Surendra Mohan RTI Act has introduced transparency into the working of Government Machinery. The act will certainly go a long way in eliminating corruption and evolving a more informed process of Decision making  What does Right to Information mean? Section 3 of RTI act declares that “ Subject to the provisions of the act All citizens shall have right to information It includes the right to   Inspect records, documents etc   To take notes, extracts or certified copies of documents or records   To take certified samples or materials   Obtain information in the form of print outs, CD’s , Diskettes, floppies, video cassette or in any other electronic mode  What does information mean? “ Any material in any form, including records, documents, memos, e-mails, opinions, advices, press releases, circulars, orders, logbooks, contracts, reports, papers, samples, models, data, material held in any electronic form and information relating to any private body which can be accessed by a public authority under any other law for time being in force”  -section 2 f)
